Some companies legitimately work as agents for patent holders to acquire licensing, but these buy bundles of patents from obscure or failing companies and then start looking for someone to sue.
These people are certainly not helping the development of technology, nor providing livelihood to inventors.
On one hand, that's understandable. On the other hand, if a patent itself is, for the inventor, supposed to be a good thing and a thing of value, why should it lose its value just because the inventor decides to sell it to someone else?
Pretty short sited. Transportation companies don't make or invent. In fact, most businesses don't make or invent. Most companies either provide a service, or re-sell something that someone else made.
